“Sports teaches you to play by the rules. It teaches you to know what it feels like to

win and lose, it teaches you about life”

Sports have been practiced since the ancient civilizations; however, only in the past few years it has been duly recognized, since it has not had the strength that it should. In 1978, The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) described sports and physical education as a fundamental right for all, and it counts with the support of The United Nations as it

is a powerful tool for sustainable development.

The past April 6th, 2018 the United Nations led the celebration of the International Sports Day for Development and Peace. They recognized that sports take us to social integration and economic development. Social collectivity is promoted by values such as peace, teamwork, fairness, respect, fraternity, and solidarity, which are stimulated during physical education practices. As a consequence of this, violence is reduced and can also help the post-conflict victims. On the other hand, as spectators and consumers are generated by sport activities, demand increases and business offers rise. Therefore, there is a creation or improvement of machines, clothing, nutritional products, and sports equipment, which helps to develop a certain sector.

In my opinion, sports not just encourage social integration, gender equality, peace building, and health promotion, but it also inspires love and passion. Over the years, thanks to experience, I can tell that the most passionate people that I have come across so far are engaged with a sport. Due to this, they are more disciplined, persistent, hard-working, and organized; making the practice of it another way to educate people.

So, with all these benefits, what are you waiting to join a sport?
