We live in a world where women are more inferior than man; even if they say that is not true, it is. Our school has taught us how we can make things different and become the empowered women we were born to be. That is why movies like Hidden Figures are a must watch for girls that believe they can make a change in the society we are currently living in.

Hidden Figures was released in 2016 and it was based on the book Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly. The movie, directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Allison Schroeder and Melfi, is about the life of three black women and their amazing and difficult things they experience to finally be successful. They were brilliant mathematicians who worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and helped with the Space Race, a competition between the Soviet Union and the U.S to dominate the capability in spaceflight. The main characters of the movie are Katherine Johnson, played by Taraji.P Henson, Dorothy Vaughan, played by Octavia Spencer, and Mary Jackson, played by Janelle Monáe.

Hidden Figures shows how fierce and powerful females are. The three main characters did not let men interfere with their work and they did not give much importance to the racism that was very powerful in those days. This movie allows the viewer to see how their world was and the injustice that not only these ladies but many other human beings were living. Without them, the success in the Space Race would not have happened: they were the main focus of attention in this process and they never made any mistakes. They were capable of doing even more than what men did and they finally got the recognition they always had deserved. Hidden Figures is more than a movie, it is a life experience that teaches women to never give up even if the road is full of men telling you “you can’t do it”, because WE CAN.
